Smith Rocks

Smith Rock State Park is 651 acres (263 hectare) of year around climbing surfaces of up to 550 feet (168 meter) high. Comprised of welded tuff (compressed volcanic ash and columnar basalt, there are more that 1,500 climbing routes from easy to 5.14c.
Smith Rock State Park is considered to be the the birthplace of modern sport climbing. On some routes the hardware is left in place for the next person to use. In other areas clean equipment like chocks and camming devices are recommended.
The park has been seen in many movies including: The Postman, Mission Impossible II, Swordfish, Rooster Cogburn.

We love to climb at Smith Rocks and have for years. Monkey Face is the best climb, I just love the views down to the river below. Too bad it is not in the photograph here.
