A beautiful waterfall that is about 15 feet from your car. Just pull into the campground at ‘Whitehorse Falls’ and look for the waterfall viewpoint pull out on the left side of the road. Walk to a little patio area and enjoy the view.

Take Hwy 138 East of Roseburg for 67 miles to the Whitehorse Falls campground.

Aufderheide Memorial Drive is reached from the Eugene-Springfield area either by traveling the McKenzie Highway (Hwy. 126) to a point 3.5 miles above Blue River or by traveling Highway 58 and then turning north to Westfir. The road travels along the South Fork of the McKenzie River and the North Fork of the Willamette River and through Box Canyon.

You can follow the road at Google Maps here. This road, formerly called Forest Road 19, North Fork Road, and sometimes called the “Box Canyon Road”, is now called the Aufderheide Memorial Drive or Aufderheide Scenic Drive.  Like many other scenic drives, it is worth the trip.

This is one of the views of he North Fork of the Willamette River taken from the roadside.

The North Santiam River near sunset one evening. This is the view from the side of the road. There a few miles/km where the river on the south/west side of the Hwy-22 between Detroit and Santiam Pass here (Google Maps). For about 10 minutes going in either direction on the highway, you will see views like this.
This particular photograph was a 30 second exposure.

Perhaps my favorite place in the mountains, I have MANY photographs of Roaring Creek. Walking up and down the banks is an incredible experience. Walking the banks takes you into a deep green, mossy, wet, noisy photographers paradise - at least in my opinion…

Take Hwy 224, which runs from Detroit to Estacada, and turn on Forest Service road 4685 (14 miles from Detroit). You can not miss this view on the left side of the road at 2.25 miles in. There is a small parking area on the right, at the second of three trailheads for the Breitenbush Gorge trail.

You can find a Google Map of the area here.
